Ultraviolet rays may cause premature aging.. Curcumin may prevent this. It also acts in sun burn & skin cancer. Curcumin is an active ingredient of turmeric. It can as an effective sun screen.
It is a known fact that ultraviolet radiation cause skin damage, like skin aging & skin cancer. New sun-protective options are in high demand. Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound-healing properties. Previous research have shown it can decrease sunlight-induced inflammation, damage to human skin cells, and collagen degradation. However, curcumin’s utility has been blocked by poor solubility, rapid degeneration, and its orange-yellow color.
“Globally no new sun screen have been developed which are safe & effective. The new ingredients like curcumin repair and/or protect from what injury UV radiation imparts on the skin,” growing incidences of skin cancer worldwide has propelled the scientists to find newer ingredients.
To overcome the drawbacks of turmeric like poor absorption, skin staining scientists have developed Nano particles of curcumin to overcome many of the limitations with curcumin. Group of scientists used small particles of curcumin in coconut oil to treat patients suffering from UV rays .It was found that patients treated with curcumin had less reddening of skin due to UV rays ,less skin damage.
The major issue of premature aging of skin due to harsh sunlight is very common. India being a tropical country with intense sunlight in many parts has this problem .Perhaps this new research can tackle the issue of premature aging to some extent.
